My Internship experience with Alpha Artistry World CIC: Roshae’s Story

Creative Media Student, Roshae, shares her internship experience with Alpha Artistry World C.I.C

Q: Roshae, what subject are you currently studying at college?

A: The subject I am currently studying at college is creative media.

Q: How has this internship experience shaped the kind of creative career you want (or don’t want)?

A: This work experience shaped the kind of creative career I would maybe want because it has provided me with many skills I didn't have at the start.

Q: Roshae, can you describe a moment during your work placement where you felt genuinely proud of your contribution?

A: A moment during my internship where I felt genuinely proud of my contribution was motivating other students to do their best, showing them that it is possible to push through something that they haven’t done before. For example, learning how to blend pastel colours.

Q: What’s something you learned from a colleague that you wouldn’t have picked up in a classroom?

A: During my internship I worked closely with the founder, Sharyh, and got to shadow her during workshops. Some things that I have learned, that I don’t think I would have picked up in a classroom, are the importance of a positive mental attitude not focusing on the negative things, but concentrating on the positives and strengths of your work, especially when it comes to creating art.

Also, asking for help when I don’t understand something and being confident because even when I get things wrong, I can learn from my mistakes.

Q: Lastly Roshae, what advice would you give to someone who wants to stand out as an intern or work placement student in a creative environment?

A: The advice I would give to someone who wants to stand out as an intern or work placement student in a creative environment is:

  • Have a balance of technical reliability with creative audacity

  • Be organised, focused, and willing to learn new things

  • Don’t overcomplicate demonstrations. Keep things simple.

  • Always be thinking about what you can learn

  • Don’t wait for tasks to pop up, identify the small things that need to be done

  • Keep track of what went well and what needs to improve for next time

  • Always get feedback!
