We were invited to the King's Cross Capital City College Welcome Fest 2025. The event offered students valuable enrichment, broadening their understanding of career paths and future opportunities. For us, it was a great opportunity to speak to students about their creative futures.

Students came from a range of creative disciplines including Fine Art, Drama and English Literature. We also spoke some with students planning to do their undergraduate study in areas like Architecture and Structural Engineering.

Why creative career paths matter
For students studying creative arts subjects, there are a wide range of transferable skills on offer, such as:
Critical thinking and analysis
Strengthened communication skills
The ability to develop ideas from concept to reality
The ability to communicate ideas visually, verbally and or in writing
Creative problem-solving
Skills which employers are actively looking for. In 2025, 70% of employers noted creative thinking as one of the most in-demand employability skills in the modern job market, with its importance expected to rise between 2023-2027.
The arts sector's continued growth
With the steady growth of the UK arts industry over the past decade, more jobs in creative fields are now available to more people - including creative arts students and graduates. A recent study shows that in 2023, creative industries added 2.4 million jobs to the UK economy, leading to over 40% of creative arts graduates being able to secure full-time employment.
We are grateful for events like the Capital City College Welcome Fest, which provide key opportunities to boost visibility around the career options currently available to creative arts students in the UK.
What career options are available for arts students?
There are several job options available for students studying arts subjects, many of which can be found on the UK's largest graduate career websites. Popular fields include:
Arts (e.g. Fine Art, Photography, Illustration)
Design (e.g. UX, UI, Fashion, Animation, Graphic design)
Media (e.g. Journalism, PR, Advertising, Marketing)
Voluntary and charity roles in creative organisations (like Alpha Artistry World C.I.C).
